My apologies. Work is keeping me increasingly busy and I love it. Every day I am learning something new, and I am getting to impress my teammates and colleagues with my skill and knowledge.

I have happy family news too.My cousin who married in March of this year, gave our family great news- she and her husband are expecting! Baby Johnson is due the week of Christmas. Mom and I think they need an "M" name to keep with the family theme. Now comes the fun part for me, a new project knit with love and from the heart. The one thing I can tell you, it will most definitely not be holiday colored.

Time to start searching patterns :D

Hope all is well with you.Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129097432993862646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042439104593645842.post-70691288405255258432014-03-27T20:27:00.001-04:002014-03-27T20:27:39.867-04:00Please, oh please, oh please!I am trying oh so very hard to not make myself crazed. I am waiting for a contact from another area at work... When will it come? Will it come? Will it finally be my turn?Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129097432993862646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042439104593645842.post-2652956616764242292014-02-02T17:15:00.001-05:002014-02-02T17:16:11.106-05:00A college friend lost his daughter today.

Baby M stayed just 15 short days here on earth. Such a short time, and I know her mommy and daddy will love and miss her for the rest of their lives.

God gained a teeny tiny angel today, and I hope that she can watch over her family from above and know they will always love her.Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129097432993862646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042439104593645842.post-15193267400119298632013-12-09T07:00:00.000-05:002013-12-09T07:00:48.732-05:00small thingsI am thankful for many many things, but this morning, it is something small.

I am thankful for the ability to work from home. I don't have to worry about driving into the office on bad weather days - I know what the roads in my town are like, but the capitol city is always a wild card. Right after getting off the highway, there is a brief steep section that you have to get up/over (that is mostly an overpass at that).

I will work cozy at home today, thank you.Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129097432993862646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042439104593645842.post-28963812498253446772013-09-21T14:28:00.001-04:002013-09-21T14:28:15.748-04:00random thoughtsSo, wow- its officially Fall today- time to openly appreciate all things Pumpkin can offer ;P

In all seriousness, I can finally open my pumpkin coffee :)

Instead of pulling out longer sleeves and starting to put away summer clothes, I am thinking of what to pack (other than 2 bathing suits, crops, and dresses). I can't wait for this getaway, and its almost here!

This afternoon's plans include grocery shopping, knitting and dodging raindrops.

On another note, UConn plays Michigan tonight. While I love my alma meter, we do not stand a chance in winning, but it would be nice if they gave a fighting chance. Is this how Yale felt?Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129097432993862646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042439104593645842.post-67829973389267978072013-09-02T21:34:00.002-04:002013-09-02T21:34:58.639-04:00Things afootTime is flying and things are afoot- less than a month until vacation and busy, busy times at work. Will be sure to keep to my gym days to keep me on track.
I went yesterday morning at 7 to learn the circuit. Included- squats with 20 lb dumbbell, reverse lunges, 45 lb chest press, 60 lb lat pull downs, another machine and then a couple of exercises with a stability ball. I was sore when I left and walked to work- no match for this morning.

Ouch.

Ouch...

Do you know how painful it is to get up/sit down/stairs when your thigh muscles are tight/sore/screaming?

May go tomorrow just for a little cardio. Don't know if I can do a squat or reverse lunge yet. Can do the rest of the circuit though.

Scored at Old Navy- yoga capris, 2 sports bras and a black T to supplement my current supply of workout clothes- I am looking forward to seeing if I can fit in a workout tomorrow!Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129097432993862646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042439104593645842.post-26299910791572725782013-06-11T20:56:00.000-04:002013-06-11T20:57:49.196-04:00Completed Baby Project #2Last fall I was blessed to be part of a beautiful wedding celebration in the VA countryside when my cousin and her love pledged their love to friends and family. Their honeymoon apparently was a busy one and they were surprised and blessed with a wee one several weeks ago ;)

Baby H was a bit impatient (like mommy) and demanded to make his appearance earlier than expected. I can't wait to meet him :)

I was going to have his gift done prior to his arrival, but instead he came first. His welcome gift is now en-route to his house and I can share my 2nd baby project of the year :)
How do you say goodbye to someone when their time comes too soon? My Aunt Terri was a dynamo, a homemaker, entertainer, and lover of animals. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.

She and my uncle turned the family homestead into a showplace, inside and out- all done with love. She always had animals around of the four footed variety and loved to have them underfoot. They raised 2 wonderful boys who have grown into incredible young men.

She loved Halloween,it was her favorite time of year. A few years ago she threw a big Halloween bash complete with a fortune teller and of course costumes were a requirement. We all had so much fun.

She had an illness that she never spoke much of, one developed while a young teenager. In the last year she had her medical struggles, but never made a big deal of them- she preferred to be quiet about it. Last fall we learned that a transplant was going to have to be a reality, and this spring it came to be an urgent requirement.

We got word last weekend that it was go time, and the family descended to the hospital for support (for her, the boys, and my uncle). The surgery was delayed several times - waiting for the donor hospital to get the process started. She finally went down to the OR the next morning for her procedure. Despite the efforts of her excellent medical team, she slipped away from this world.

I am not a very religious person, and struggle to understand the reason why He called her home. None of us were ready to say goodbye- especially her boys.

You know there are risks for any surgery, especially one as long and complex as this one. Yet, we didn't think this would ever be a possibility. We fully expected to hear she was in recovery and that she made it through with flying colors. It seems like a horrible nightmare that we can't seem to wake from.

Aunt Terri, I will miss you greatly, and hope you are now at peace and pain free. I will miss your smile, your loving nature, your sarcasm and sense of humor (the Donovan genes are strong there). I hope you have reunited with Grandma and Grandpa, Speckles, Tucker and Murphy, and are now watching over your family. We'll miss you.
I have been working on his welcome blanket since April. I have to get cracking to finish.

This time I will have to take a photo. I made a similar blankie for a handsome little man born last month, but forgot to take a photo before I gave it to mommy.

Time to crack the whip and get to work. (And saying a little prayer for my cousin)Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129097432993862646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042439104593645842.post-67231330832856619512013-03-21T17:43:00.000-04:002013-03-21T17:43:45.652-04:00Pre- Vacation prepI think its funny how when going on a big trip, you always end up shopping beforehand.

Next month am taking a big family vacation and so far I have bought 2 jackets (one lined & waterproof and one a canvas trench), new sneakers, and 2 tops. I have a feeling more will follow.

Don't even get me started on toiletries- we have TSA restrictions, and I am not a light packer- this will be interesting.

Have a great afternoon and THINK SPRING!!
It seems like it was just January...

For my birthday, my M got tickets to Straight No Chaser at Beacon Theatre in NYC (which just so happened to be on Valentine's Day). What a beautiful location. I had never seen them live, and was excited to see the show.

It was amazing, they are great performers and love playing it up for the crowd. I wish in retrospect I had taken time off either that day or on Friday- it made for a VERY LONG day....felt bad about getting M up so early and out the door, but hey a girl has to get to work!

I got to spend a really great night with my man :) What a great present!!
Newtown CT used to be a sleepy little hamlet where nothing bad happened. This morning, that peace was shattered and the town (and state) will never be the same.

20 young children ranging in age from 5 to 10 had their lives cut horrifically short. 7 staff and teachers also had their lives taken away, trying to protect their charges.

I have heard the sick excuse for a human being killed his mother at home and then went to the school to slaughter the ones she loved as the ultimate F.U. My heart goes out to his family (brother and father and other relatives) - they had no idea he was capable of such cruelty. I am sure that life will never be the same for them either.

As more details came out, it hit close to home- my niece is a kindergartner in a small bucolic CT town, she like some of the new angels today, is in an AM class. All I could think of tonight is that it could have been her school and her friends. I was lucky enough to have a sleepover with her tonight and made sure to get lots of hugs.

How will the school recover- what will happen? Will the school be torn down and rebuilt? Will that section be taken down? I don't think they can leave the school as is today. What person (teacher or parent) would want things to stay as they were??? I know the children in this school will never be the same, their innocence is gone- shattered in the blink of an eye.

In addition to the family and friends for all those involved, thoughts and prayers go out to the first responders. They saw the unbelievable today and will have to cope with the images they saw. An image of firefighters crying this morning is going to stay with me for a long time.

I am going to say another prayer as I go to sleep tonight- for all of the new angels today, and their grieving families.

The boy is coming with me to Thanksgiving- will meet my brother, cousins, and niece. Hope all goes well- he'll be one of 21 at the house.

He is from a small family who has their thanksgiving in the evening- he is going back down to the coast after our gathering- and picking up his gramma on the way (so sweet). Have yet to meet any of the family- will have to do that sooner than later......

This week will be interesting!

There are some folks in my family that are polar opposites politically than I, and for the last several months, they have been posting ultra conservative views/ opinions ad nausium.

I have finally reached my tolerance limit. We are all welcome to our own particular political views, and I understand that we will never see eye to eye on ANYTHING political.

But I am sick and tired of it all. Between all of the political posts, attack ads, the landslide of attack mailers, and the most unwelcome phone calls from Linda McMahon's campaign (I am a registered Dem, NO I will not vote for you, NO I will not stump for you, NO I will not call around and convince my neighbors to vote for you) I have had it up to HERE.

I got pissed off and stopped biting my tongue today. While I made sure to respond in a way that would not invite/inflame arguments on FB, I could not stomach any more. I know you don't care for our incumbent president, but show some f'ing respect.

I am looking forward to next Wednesday (11/7) more and more. What ever way the polls and the electoral votes fall, the battles and attack ads will be DONE. I hope to god the same will follow suit on a certain social media site. Come next Wednesday, maybe we can end the madness that has been this ugly election season.Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129097432993862646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042439104593645842.post-29663815586850809992012-10-31T17:32:00.002-04:002012-10-31T17:32:13.695-04:00Its Astounding........Time is fleeting,

I am an introverted person who sometimes has a hard time making decisions. This applies to social situations, clothing choices and such... but funny enough it doesn't happen at at work- just social life.

Recently I was posed a question- do you go with the devil you know or the devil you don't???
Do you want to be the youngest in a group you know? Or do you want to be put in a new group that may be a better age fit, but you don't know anyone (vise versa)...

After much thought, I went with the group I know. While I would love to meet some of the other group(s) I think it would be better to do that in a more casual/easy setting.

I really wish sometimes that I could be more decisive and adventerous.Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129097432993862646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042439104593645842.post-88039368648636958152012-08-12T22:01:00.000-04:002012-08-12T22:01:01.801-04:00breaking through the comfort zoneI am a self taught knitter, and for the last several years have made blankets, scarves, hats and slippers for friends and family.

I never entertained the thought of mittens because the thumb section intimidates me. Last week I had mentioned that I needed to start knitting again and a friend suggested that I make mittens- she even offered to pay for a pair. I mentioned that mittens were out of my league, but my interest was piqued.

I went to Lion Brand's website and did some poking. I found this 'easy' pattern and figured I could give it a try: mittens . It ended up taking just a weekend (not the whole time). While not perfect, I am very pleased the way they turned out, I have to make sure I pay close attention when working the thumbs.

I went outside my comfort zone and learned something new- and it was good :)
